Real Madrid confirms Ibrahima Konate as its first signing ahead of 2026/27 season

Real Madrid have officially completed the signing of Ibrahima Konaté, with the French centre-back joining on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract with Liverpool.

The 27-year-old has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2030, becoming one of the club’s headline additions ahead of the 2026/27 season. Konaté arrives in Madrid after five successful years at Liverpool, where he was touted as one of the Premier League’s top defenders.

Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021, he made 183 appearances, helping the Reds win the Premier League, the FA Cup, and two League Cups while also reaching the 2022 Champions League final. His commanding aerial presence, recovery pace, and physicality made him a key figure in Liverpool’s defence.
